Top podcasts: NY Times’ ‘The Daily’ not failing
March 2, 2017
Some may believe The New York Times is “failing,” but it’s new podcast “The Daily” certainly isn’t.
Hosted by longtime Times correspondent Michael Barbaro, “The Daily” aims to meld radio, podcasts and newspapers into a roughly 15-minute show available at 6 a.m. each weekday.
Each episode essentially takes an in-depth look at newsworthy topics. The first episode aired on Feb. 1 and looked at Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch. An episode just over a week later asked, “Is Senator Warren actually a danger to the Democratic party?”
Not every episode focuses on U.S. politics, although many have so far considering the amount of news that has come out of this young administration.
As of March 1, “The Daily” ranked as the No. 3 U.S. podcast on the iTunes charts. It has been on the chart for 29 days, essentially everyday since it launched.
So far, listeners appear to like what they hear. “The Daily” has received 836 ratings on iTunes as of Thursday morning, and 778 of those are five out of five stars.
‘Rabbits’ tops iTunes
Elsewhere on iTunes top U.S. podcasts charts, Public Radio Alliance’s new “Rabbits” podcast came in at No. 1. The docu-drama podcast focuses on co-host Carly Parker’s search for a missing friend.
Coming in at No. 2 is “Missing Richard Simmons.” In it, former “Daily Show” producer Dan Taberski takes a look at the longtime fitness guru.
