Actor James Rebhorn, who most recently appeared in the Showtime series “Homeland,” died on Friday at age 65 of melanoma, which he battled for more than 20 years. Rebhorn also recently had a recurring role in the USA series “White Collar.”
Esquire Network has named Sean Jennings director of communications, effective immediately. Jennings was previously director of corporate communications and publicity at GSN.
John Hendricks, founder and chairman at Discovery Communications, is retiring after the company’s annual shareholders meeting on May 16. Hendricks is also a former chief executive officer at the company, stepping down from that role in 2004.
Mindshare has promoted three in its Canada office, naming Sheri Cooper chief of client operations, Armin Huska chief digital officer and Lina Alles chief trading officer. All three are new positions at the agency.
CBS Television Distribution has brought in Elaine Bauer Brooks, naming her executive vice president of development. Brooks most recently worked as an executive producer at Style Network.
NBC has named J.B. Smoove host of the upcoming revival of its reality competition “Last Comic Standing,” while Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans and Russell Peters have joined as judges. The series returns to NBC on May 22.
CBS has added Lindsay Sloane to the cast of its upcoming pilot “The Odd Couple,” which starts Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon. Sloane has most recently appeared on “Psych” and “The League.”
Actress Alfre Woodard has joined the cast of NBC’s drama pilot “State of Affairs,” which stars Katherine Heigl as a CIA agent. Woodard will play U.S. president Roberta Payton.
The Los Angeles Times has promoted Kimi Yoshino to business editor, up from her previous position as morning assigning editor for the paper’s Metro section. Yoshino has been with newspaper since 2000.
Online content technology company Outbrain has named Ziv Kop chief operating officer, reporting to co-founder and chief executive Yaron Galai. Kop is a former managing partner at GlenRock Israel.
