CW has signed Gina Rodriguez to star in its drama pilot “Jane the Virgin,” based on the Venezuelan telenovela “Juana la Virgen.” Rodriguez has most recently made appearances on “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Longmire.” The CW project is about a woman who is accidentally artificially inseminated.
Nexstar Broadcasting, which owns 74 TV stations in the U.S., has named Christopher Berg director of local content development for the West region. Berg was previously assistant news director at WFAA-TV in the Dallas/Fort Worth market.
CBS has added Aimee Garcia to the cast of its drama pilot “Red Zone,” about a retired CIA agent who goes back to work following a terrorist attack. Garcia will play a case officer in the CIA’s counter-terrorism unit.
Dean Winters has joined CBS’s upcoming drama “Battle Creek,” from “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan. Winters currently has a recurring role on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
TBWA\Chiat\Day has named Chad Hopenwasser head of integrated production in its New York office, working alongside executive creative director Matt Ian. Hopenwasser was most recently vice president and director of video production at Crispin, Porter + Bogusky.
Direct response agency Havas Edge has made three additions, naming Chris Brombach director of client services for the short-form media group, Keith Gerr general manager for digital services in its Portland office and Lisa Miller human resources director. Brombach has previously worked for Carat, DDB, PHD and Kovel/Fuller, Gerr for K2Design, Ogilvy & Mather and R/GA and Miller for McCann-Erickson Worldgroup and Young & Rubicam.
Organic has promoted Tracy Richards to chief marketing officer, a new position at the agency. Richards had been group director for global business development.
AMC Networks has named John Brohel senior vice president of international finance, reporting to executive vice president and chief financial officer Sean Sullivan. Brohel was previously chief financial officer at Leftfield Entertainment.
Actress Della Reese will guest on Hallmark Channel’s upcoming series “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” appearing in two episodes. Reese most recently appeared in the TV movie “Miracle at Gate 213.”
Joe Gallagher has been named senior vice president of channel sales at Collective, a digital audience targeting company. Gallagher has previously held positions at Firefly Video, Exponential, BBE, The Wall Street Journal and Real Media.
