Paul Rittenberg, executive vice president of ad sales at Fox News, is stepping down from his position on April 28. Rittenberg has been with the company for more than 20 years, joining as vice president of ad sales in April 1996. Before that he held a similar role at CNBC.
Crown Media Family Networks has named Jane Gross creative director for on-air promotion, reporting to senior vice president Jill Underhill. Gross was previously creative director of creative services at Pivot.
Mark Risis has joined The Weather Co. as vice president of partnerships, based in the company’s New York office. Risis had been head of strategy and business development at TiVo Research.
NBC Sports Regional Networks has promoted Walter Cade to senior vice president, reporting to NBCUniversal Regional-Owned Television stations chief revenue officer and president of commercial operations Frank Comerford. Cade had been vice president of ad sales at Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
Soumya Sriraman has been named North America president at BritBox, a subscription video on demand service launching later this year. Sriraman joins from BBC Worldwide, where she was executive vice president of franchise and digital enterprises.
Freeform has promoted Eden Brolin to a series regular on the second season of “Beyond,” where she plays a woman with unexplained abilities. Brolin has previously appeared on “Emerald City” and “Code Black.”
Content marketing agency Pace has named Jeffrey L. Cohen director of strategy, effective immediately. Cohen joins from Oracle Marketing Cloud, where he was director of content strategy.
Brand consultancy Saffron has named Keith Miller vice president of the Americas, based in the company’s new San Francisco office. Miller was most recently founder and chief marketing officer at Vibe Consulting.
Ad agency trade group the 4As has named Marla Kaplowitz president and chief executive officer, replacing the departing Nancy Hill. Kaplowitz is also North America chief executive officer at MEC.
Real Simple magazine has brought in Geraldson “Gino” Chua as art director, replacing the departed Alyce Jones. Chua was previously deputy art director at Esquire.
Lindsay Silberman has joined Town & Country magazine as senior digital editor, reporting to site director Elizabeth Angell. Silberman had been a freelance writer for publications including WSJ, Vogue and Departures.
Gary Cartwright, a longtime writer at Texas Monthly, died last week at age 82 after suffering a fall. Cartwright’s career at Texas Monthly began with its first issue in 1973, and he worked there until he retired in 2010.
James Stevenson, a longtime cartoonist at The New Yorker, died earlier this month of pneumonia at age 87. Stevenson drew 1,988 cartoons during his career, ending his run in 2003.
The Star Tribune in Minneapolis has made a pair of hires, naming Alicia Eler arts reporter and Richard Chin features reporter. Eler previously worked as a freelance arts and culture writer, while Chin joins from The St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Héctor Gabino, a photographer at The Miami Herald and the Spanish-language El Nuevo Herald, died on Saturday at age 51 after a battle with cancer. Gabino captured a number of stories during his career but became known for his photos at sporting events involving the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat and Miami Marlins. He also covered breaking news events, such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and the 2000 Elián Gonzalez case.
Stanley Dearman, longtime editor and publisher of The Neshoba Democrat in Philadelphia, Mississippi, died over the weekend at age 84. No cause was given. Dearman was known for a series of editorials about the mid-’60s killings of three civil rights workers at the hands of the Ku Klux Klan, a case that was the basis of the movie “Mississippi Burning.”
