New York independent agency BARKER has promoted Sandi Harari to executive vice president and creative director. She has been with the agency since 2006, most recently as senior vice president and creative director.
Meredith has two new editors in chief at its magazines. Jill Waage, who had been editorial director of digital content and products for Better Homes and Gardens, will become editor in chief of Traditional Home. Waage succeeds Ann Omvig Maine, who is retiring after 15 years of heading the magazine and 35 years overall at Meredith. And Jennifer Darling becomes editor in chief of Allrecipes. She had been editorial director for BHG Special Interest Publications. Darling replaces Cheryl Brown, who is the new editor in chief of Family Circle.
Annie Lowrey is becoming a writer at The Atlantic. She has written for The New York Times, New York magazine and Slate, among other places.
James A. Baggett has joined Better Homes and Gardens as the garden editor. He had been at another Meredith publication, Country Gardens, where he was editor.
Deirdre Sykes took over as editor in chief of the Bergen Record a year ago January, just months before the paper, along with others in the North Jersey Media Group, was acquired by Gannett. She lost her position, though was promised another title, when the paper changed hands. Now it appears she’s decided to leave rather than stay on at the paper, which like the rest of the NJMG has been gutted by layoffs. The New York Post’s Keith Kelly reports Sykes will leave in March and is looking for a new position.
The New York Times has promoted Alison Mitchell to assistant editor on the masthead, working with deputy managing editor Matthew Purdy to oversee daily print and online coverage. That will include picking front-page stories. She has been a reporter and editor at The Times, including covering previous presidential campaigns. She oversaw the daily election news report last year.
Is “G.I. Jane” any match for Cookie? We’ll soon find out. Demi Moore will appear on the season-three finale of “Empire” and then return in a recurring role in season four. She plays a nurse.
A drama pilot from the creators of “Agent Carter” has tapped Jason Ritter to star. The “Parenthood” veteran will portray the title character in ABC’s “Gospel of Kevin,” about a jerky guy who is asked by God to save the world.
Fox has hired Tommy Gargotta as executive vice president of creative marketing, starting March 6. He had been president of theatrical marketing for Relativity Europacorp Distribution.
Warren Frost, who played Dr. Will Hayward on “Twin Peaks,” has died following a long illness. He was 91. Frost reprised his role on the “Peaks” reboot before his death. He’s also known for playing the father of George Costanza’s fiancé, Susan Ross, on “Seinfeld.”
Jason Fisher has joined First Look Media as senior vice president and head of production. He had been senior vice president and head of production at AMC Networks. Also, Ryan Heller has joined First Look as vice president of acquisitions. He had been senior director of acquisitions and distribution at Starz.
Soon-to-launch streaming video on demand service WALTER PRESENTS has added Jen Robertson as general manager in the United States. She had been at WE tv, where she oversaw the team leading advanced media platforms expansion.
