The five new shows most likely to get the axe
Number of programs have posted disappointing ratings, but none is a disaster

The past few years, the networks have become more and more reluctant to yank new shows off the air.
Unless a program completely bombs, most shows are allowed at least six weeks to find an audience.
That’s quite different than a few years ago, when a show might get the axe after just two or three episodes.
Why? Part of it is the networks today have other factors to take into consideration that they didn’t before, such as DVR and online viewing.
So far this fall, the networks haven’t canceled any shows.
What’s more, they may not do so for weeks to come. This fall, nothing has posted numbers so awful that it needed to get off the air immediately.
This is also partly because the networks’ standards have fallen. With viewership for broadcast on a long, slow decline, ratings that would have been unacceptable before (anything under a 1.0 in adults 18-49) are now tolerable for the short term.
That makes it harder for media buyers and planners to predict which shows will be canceled. Still, a handful appear to be at least endangered if not facing imminent death.
Here are a few we’re keeping an eye on.
The 10 p.m. Monday program has been losing nearly half of its adults 18-49 lead-in from “Dancing with the Stars.” ABC can’t afford that kind of squandering. The network had been hoping to rebuild its 10 p.m. hour this fall, and “Conviction” won’t help in that goal.
“No Tomorrow” (CW)
Speaking of squandering a lead-in, the CW’s new comedy lost 70 percent of its lead-in among 18-49s this week, and it’s averaging under a million viewers.
“The Exorcist” (Fox)
The lowest-rated new show on the Big Four, this movie remake is an obvious choice for cancellation. Since it airs on low-rated Friday, the network may give it a longer leash, though.
Yes, another on ABC. The network has a trio of new shows that look very promising, but this drama can’t hang on to enough of “Grey’s Anatomy’s” lead-in to justify staying in the important 9 p.m. Thursday anchor spot.
The network will promote this show about Major League Baseball’s first female pitcher heavily during the World Series. Considering it partnered with MLB to make the show, Fox will be reluctant to cancel it. But if the World Series promotion doesn’t boost ratings, nothing will.
